About NOA, Lagos Quality Eye Care for Nigerians

The Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), founded in 1968, is the prime umbrella association representing over 4000 Doctors of Optometry across the 36 States of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; as well as other Optometric interest groups in Nigeria. NOA is an affiliate member of the African Council of Optometry (AFCO) and the World Council of Optometry (WCO). NOA is the umbrella body for all members (Optometrists) and affiliate bodies - Association of Optometrists in Public Health Centres in Nigeria (AOPHCN); The Women Optometrists in Nigeria (WON); The Family of Optometric Mentors (FOM); Guild of Optometric Directors of Nigerian (GOODON). NOA Lagos is a State Chapter comprising of members living/practicing in Lagos State. With over 500 Optometrists practicing in Lagos, NOA Lagos plays a pivotal role in the affairs of Optometry in Nigeria. Presently, the State Chapter has 4 zones - Ikeja Zone, Alimosho Zone, Festac Zone, and Island Zone.

Your Membership Offers a Wealth of Resources and Services: From Public Relation to Education to Advocacy and Member Discounts. If you are an Optometrist and not yet a member of the Nigerian Optometric Association, below are some reasons why you should consider joining us:

NOA reaches the public through campaigns such as those organised during world sight day and world glaucoma week. Our website provides easy-to-navigate information on the importance of regular eye exams and eye health. We engage the media with information regarding vision, the welfare of members, news releases and alerts, and coordinate public speaking and media opportunities for our members. We also help you reach out to your existing and potential patients via our website, free professional communications materials including brochures, fact sheets and lots more.

NOA has engaged Zenith Insurance to provide Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) policy for members. While we sensitize members on the need to make this policy compulsory we encourage every optometrist who wants to protect his practice and practice with confidence to key into this policy which has started. If you practice optometry, you have a legal requirement to hold professional indemnity insurance that meets the registration standard.

Each year the NOA organizes a Continuing Education and Networking Conference. This popular three-day event offers top-quality speakers from across Nigeria and other countries to provide optometric education for both Doctors of Optometry and their staff as well as create avenues for networking and business development among members.  It is usually a great opportunity to learn new developments in the eye care sector and to meet friends we have lost touch with for years.

As a member of NOA, we also provide newly graduated and younger members a 25% discount on the Conference registration fees. For details on special rates available to you through your NOA membership, please contact us.

NOA carries out CSR activities by organizing Free Vision Screening/other outreach programs to communities in remote areas, during the celebration of World Glaucoma Week, World Optometry Day and World Sight Day.

NOA have a wide range of opportunities requiring volunteers. Through the volunteers, NOA speaks loudest and works best with extensive member participation. From belonging to committees to participating in advocacy to working on key awareness campaigns and contributing to the society members develops a network of like-minded doctors and develop professionally.  Any member of NOA can participate, either by becoming part of a committee that interests them.
