Claiming your listing in the chapter register

The chapter's public register lists licensed Doctors of Optometry practising in Lagos State, and it is how a member of the public finds a practitioner near them. It is the most-used part of this site.

It is also, at the moment, imperfect — and the way to fix it is for members to claim and correct their own entries.

Where the data came from

The register was rebuilt from the records held on the chapter's previous website, merged with the membership list supplied by the secretariat. That combination produced a complete set of names, but a patchy set of details.

Specifically: the old records carried a free-text location field that was inconsistently filled, so each member's zone has been inferred rather than confirmed. Practice addresses are frequently out of date. Contact details are partial. And the biography field on the old site turned out to contain the same template text for every member, so it has been removed entirely rather than republished.

None of that can be fixed centrally with any confidence. Only the practitioner knows where they currently practise.

What claiming does

Claiming links your listing to you and lets you correct it. You can set or correct your practice name and address, confirm which zone you belong to, add your areas of practice, upload a photograph, and write your own biography.

You also choose what is published. Your name, practice and practice address appear publicly — that is what the register is for. Your phone number and email address are private by default and are published only if you switch them on. Your registration number is never shown publicly; it appears only in your own portal and to the secretariat.

You can also unpublish your listing entirely if you would rather not appear.

How to claim

Go to the claim page on this site and enter the email address the chapter holds for you. A sign-in link is sent to that address — there is no password to remember and none to lose.

If the chapter does not hold an email address for you, or holds an old one, the claim page will say so and the secretariat can verify you another way.

On passwords, briefly

The previous website was compromised. No password from it has been carried across — not one — and there is no member password on this site at all. Members sign in with a link sent to their own email address, which means there is no member credential on this system for anyone to steal.

If you used the same password elsewhere as you did on the old site, change it there.

What else the portal holds

Your dues status for the year, your own listing as the public sees it, and your communication preferences. More will be added as the site develops.

If something is wrong that you cannot fix

Your name as recorded, a duplicate entry, or a registration number that is not yours are matters for the secretariat rather than for self-service, because they affect the integrity of the register. Contact the secretariat through this site and it will be corrected.
